In addition to our monthly section events, we offer a range of educational opportunities
for emerging professionals, industry peers, and anyone seeking to expand their lighting knowledge.
Fundamentals of Light – In-Person Class
This is the entry level course for those who have little lighting knowledge, but seek a reasonably
comprehensive grounding in lighting equipment, technology, and practice. This class will be held
in person over three class days.
Fundamentals of Light – Virtual Class
Open to all of District 6
This is the entry level course for those who have little lighting knowledge, but seek a reasonably
comprehensive grounding in lighting equipment, technology, and practice. This class will be held
remotely over a five-week period with two class sessions per week.
This fast-paced, self-directed online class provides a practical understanding of lighting vocabulary, equipment, regulations, and practices. No prior lighting experience required.
Half-day intensive learning experiences on specific topics, suited for those with existing lighting knowledge and deeper interest.
IES eLearning — On-Demand Education
The IES on-demand platform offers webinars and videos. Each course includes a one-hour session, a short quiz and survey, and a downloadable CEU certificate.
The Lighting Library is a newly formulated 5-collection series of IES standards that updates, expands, and replaces the 2010 Lighting Handbook and previous versions of our standards. All content within the Library has been vetted and approved by our ANSI-approved IES consensus process, with most of the nearly 100 standards having attained American National Standards status. Subscribing to the Lighting Library through our web-enabled platform allows you to take your knowledge with you; you can bookmark, annotate, and keep track of updates, all personalized to your interests. For companies and organizations, the Sustaining Membership offerings allow collaboration between organization members, no matter where you are.
